Prayer is talking to God.  The Bible says we pray when we seek, ask, call, cry, and pray to God.

Why pray from God's Word?

·God's word is settled (established).

Psalm 119:89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

·God's word will stand forever.

Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

·God's word will not pass away.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

·God's word endures.

1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endures for ever. And this is the word which
by the gospel is preached unto you.

·The word of God will accomplish/ perform God's purpose.

Jeremiah 1:12 Then said the LORD unto me, Thou has well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

Reasons to pray -

·Direction
Psalm 25:4-5  Show me thy ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. [5] Lead me in your truth, and teach me: for you
are the God of my salvation; on you do I wait all the day.

Psalm 37:23  The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delights in his way.

Proverbs 16:9  A man's heart devises his way: but the Lord directs his steps.

·Guidance
Psalm 31:3  For you are my rock and my fortress; therefore for your name's sake lead me, and guide me.

Psalm 32:8   I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go: I will guide you
with mine eye (by what I see).

·Deliverance from fears
Psalm 34:4  I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

·Freedom from poverty
Psalm 34:6  This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

·Needs met
Philippians 4:19  But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Model prayers are -

Psalm 23:1-6  The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. [2] He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads
me beside the still waters. [3] He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
[4] Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and
thy staff they comfort me. [5] You prepare a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: you anoint my head
with oil; my cup runs over. [6] Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in
the house of the Lord for ever.

Matthew 6:9-13  After this manner therefore you pray : Our Father which is in heaven, Hallowed be your name. [10]
Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. [11] Give us this day our daily bread. [12] And
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. [13] And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For
yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
